A Letter From A Concerned Active Duty Military Vet

By: Steve Nolan

To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them. –George Mason, Founding Father

This week a subscriber of The Beacon wrote me asking for advice. I thought I would share it with you and my response.

Steve,

I was at the last Charlotte Prepcon and plan to be at the next one as well.  There is a guy on my Facebook that I went to high school with that made a statement about taking all of our guns away.  He has about 1500 friends on his Facebook, and I would really like to reach out to everyone of these people.  By him posting what he did, it opened up a good door for me to comment for everyone to see.

You have so much knowledge and a way with your words, I was hoping that you would have time to help me with a good fact-based comment.  I was hoping to go in the direction of this putting us more in socialist/communist gov't, criminals getting guns no matter what, as long as there is steel and wood there will be guns...again, I am not educated with everything like you are, so it would be great if you could help me out.  His comment is below:

"Man, I am so tired of all these SENSELESS killings! We call this the land of the free. Statue of Liberty "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free... We may have our right to bear arms and we fight for that right, but at what cost!? At what point do we swallow our pride and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! What if it were your child that was gunned down?? I don’t care if some say “Its not guns that kill people, its people” Well something is wrong, and you cant take people out of the equation, so take the guns!! Damn it!! This guy says he is former military!!!””

Hope you could give me some guidance on what to say.  I am Active Duty Army and I know sometimes we just don’t have enough time to do everything in our plans.

Brandon, P.

Here is my response:

Brandon:

First off and foremost, thank you for service! I like to open my weekly posts with quotes because I think it provides our readers with a contextual message from great men and women who came way before us that wisely spoke on the very subjects we cover in The Dispatch. More often than not, I like to quote our Founding Fathers, for these were men who literally risked everything for Liberty…their well-being, their lives and their families’ futures! They did what they did because they were witnesses to the injustice of living in an occupied nation. They knew the oppression of tyranny!

Well, I will let you all in on a little secret...history is about to repeat itself. Our so-called elected officials have passed, are passing and will keep on passing traitorous legislation that in more sane and rational times would have had them expelled from Congress and probably hung…rather than be reelected, time and time again and make careers mocking our Constitution and the oath they took to protect and preserve it!

They are overtly breaking the laws of this land and infringing on your God-given rights…Why?  To protect us from “terrorism”?  You have a greater chance of dying from bee stings than from a jihadist terrorist or a drugged out lunatic in a movie theatre.

History is repeating itself except this time around, our beloved nation won’t be occupied by a foreign army but our own! The military has been drawing up plans like Rex84, Operation Garden Plot, creation of Army run Re-Education Camps, and countless field manuals and publications preparing for martial law in the United States… and a critical part of those plans is to disarm you!

Now go back and reread George Mason’s quote again and reflect for a moment.

Disarming American citizens is not the answer to how to stop senseless killings, regardless of how someone feelsl about firearms. I would refer to our Founding Fathers and make the argument our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is what keeps these tyrants from implementing their occupation plans on us now!

There is substantial evidence that shows that everywhere legally owned firearms are removed from law-abiding citizens, the result is increases in crime rates and murders.  You simply need to compare the crime rates in gun-hating cities like Washington DC, Chicago, and New York City to cities that allow legal possession and use of firearms to prove this.

Ironically enough, we just posted a video the other day on our own Facebook page from YouTube called "Watch What Happens When Guns Are Banned In Australia." That is pretty powerful stuff for anyone inclined to listen to a conflicting viewpoint on the results of recent gun confiscation abroad. (And while you are at it, please “like” us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter too!)

The same crime surge that happened in Australia happened in England too. And Canada has officially recognized that their gun registry program was a total failure and a waste of tax money.  Do we really want to follow all their routes to the same conclusion?

Brandon, the problem is not guns—guns are just tools. And even if we removed the guns, it would only make this nation weaker and more vulnerable to threats from outside our borders, and more likely from enemies already within!

If your friend wants to "stop the madness," he should take a look at the total lack of mental health treatment facilities in this country and perhaps channel some of his energies by calling for some change in that direction. Seung-Hui Cho, Jared Lee Loughner and even James Holmes in Aurora, Colorado were all on people's radars…people around them knew these guys were ticking time-bombs!  Our mental health and legal systems simply do not allow anyone to take any action to prevent these “loose cannons” until after crimes are committed.  And when people speak out and try to get help for these types of people before a tragedy occurs, there's not a legal process or enough appropriate facilities to send these sick people for treatment.

The other day, I was reading the Bible and finishing Acts when I came across this passage. It resonated with me and maybe it will resonate with you.

ACTS 28: verses 26 and 27:

“Go to this people, and say, ‘You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive. For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.”

The majority of American’s don’t see that we are headed for a fall. And mark my words…the day the government kills the 2nd Amendment and declares it is illegal to keep and bear firearms will be the day our end as a free nation becomes a certainty.  Or, some would say, it may announce a chance for a new beginning–because most Americans aren’t giving up our weapons. If our government tries to take our firearms, there will be a revolution.

Maybe Thomas Jefferson was right. Maybe it’s time to wash the tree of liberty again with the blood of tyrants and patriots. If it is, it will be our own government that fires the first shot!

Until next time, keep your powder dry and your faith strong!
